Emagic has launched Logic 4 as a major upgrade, with a major price tag of up to £99. If you buy it fresh, without upgrading a previous version you'll need £549 burning a hole in your trousers. The good news is that the latest version comes with a massive collection of effects, including numerous EQs and reverbs. Apparently the PC version has been re-written to make it more like the Mac version. Whether or not this is a good thing, the fact that an upgrade from Logic Platinum 3.5 to Logic Platinum 4 costs around £100 is enough to make us think twice. The inclusion of 24-bit support for posh sound cards doesn't convince us, either. At press time Emagic announced a patch for the Mac version - already! The 4.0.1 update is available from Emagic's web site and provides support for USB MIDI interfaces. Author: Simon PG Edwards 31 July 1999
